Lahinch Golf Club
Home to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in 2019, Lahinch Golf Club has helped establish the Clare town of Lahinch as a standout location for golf in Ireland. Lahinch offers two 18-hole courses, the Old Course, which lies between the road and the sea, and the Castle Course across the road.
Named after a ruined tower nearby, the Castle Course is a flatter links. Unusually, goats roam freely across the Old Course. In 2016, Golf Digest rated the Old Course at Lahinch number 65 among the best golf courses in the world.
Doonbeg Golf Club
Now part of Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland, Doonbeg Golf Club is a traditional links-type course in Doonbeg, Co. Clare. Designed by Greg Norman and opened in 2002, it won Golf Digest’s Best New International Course at its launch.
The course fits naturally into the seaside landscape of the area, extending across 1.5 miles of crescent-shaped beach and sand dunes along Doughmore Bay. In 2010, the IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators named it European Golf Resort of the Year.
Galway Bay Golf Resort
Designed by former Ryder Cup and World Cup golfer Christy O’Connor Jnr., Galway Bay Golf Resort is regularly listed among the best golf courses in Ireland. It combines the dramatic backdrop of Galway Bay with established trees, water hazards, hidden bunkers, and immaculate putting surfaces.
This course offers a magnificent challenge to the finest golfers, with its unpredictable wind speeds and direction. Whatever your handicap, you will appreciate the beautiful scenery of Galway Bay and views of the hills of Clare.
Carne Golf Links
Carne Golf Links in North Mayo on the West Coast of Ireland nestles among pristine sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Located close to the town of Belmullet, it was the final links course the late Eddie Hackett designed, and many who play it claim it was also the best course he created. A further nine holes (The Kilmore 9) opened in 2013.
Every effort has been made to leave the ancient landscape intact, with tees and greens placed naturally without disturbing the earth. The views over the Atlantic and the fabled islands of Inis Glóire and Inis Géidhe are simply stunning.
County Sligo Golf Club at Rosses Point
The globally renowned golf course in Sligo’s Rosses Point is not for the fainthearted. Leveraging the rugged landscape of dunes and dramatic undulations, the course offers a superb challenge to golfers. The traditional links layout, designed by Harry Colt,
complements the natural contours of the landscape instead of altering it by moving substantial amounts of earth. The result is a course full of interesting features, such as rolling dunes, high trees, and raised plateau greens.
